Payment Methods
How do I make a payment to the Society?
Members can submit payments via cheque made payable to “Highland Pony Society,” PayPal direct transfer, or bank deposit using Sort code 83 47 00 and Account number 00177837. Always note what the payment relates to.
Stallion Licensing
When must a colt be licensed as a stallion for showing?
All competing Highland pony stallions in affiliated shows (In Hand, Ridden, WHP etc) aged 4yrs and over must be licensed with the Highland Pony Society.
Registration & Passports
Can I register non-Highland ponies?
No. The Society only registers Highland ponies. Other breeds should contact their respective breed society or commercial passport providers.
What if my purchased pony has no Registration Certificate?
All Highland ponies are issued with a Registration Certificate and passport at registration. It is not possible to transfer ownership without both documents. Contact the seller to obtain these essential documents.
Microchipping
Is microchipping mandatory?
Yes. With effect from October 2020 for ponies kept in England and March 2021 for those in Scotland, it is a legal requirement for them to be microchipped.
What happens when I transfer ownership?
Once you register a Transfer of Ownership with the Highland Pony Society, there’s no need to contact microchip providers separately. The Society updates the National Equine Database and consequently the National Chipchecker.
Death & Documentation
What happens to papers when a pony dies?
It is a legal requirement to return the papers to the Society within 30 days of the death. No penalty applies for late submissions. Request return of papers by enclosing five second-class stamps.
Showing & Judging
Can a judge exhibit their own ponies at the same show?
No. Judges should not accept judging appointments and exhibit their ponies at the same show.
Complaints
Does the Society have a complaints procedure?
Yes. Submit complaints in writing to the Highland Pony Society Secretary. You will receive written acknowledgement by post or email by return and confirmation within 15 days of how it will be handled.
